With the idea that sharing resources creates opportunities for better veterinary care, Fidelio formed the foundation of what was to become AniCura in 2011. Fidelio saw that veterinarians could focus on their important clinical work while having other company functions support them with new technology and the business services needed. Back then, veterinary care was a fragmented market with strong underlying growth and great potential for professionalisation and digitalisation.
AniCura was created by Fidelio in 2011 when Fidelio acquired and subsequently merged three leading animal hospitals in Sweden. Following foundation, Fidelio was actively involved in appointing a complete professional management team and establishing central support functions that could be leveraged across the growing Group. Additionally, in light of the strong underlying growth for veterinary care in a very fragmented market, Fidelio enabled an ambitious buy-and-build growth agenda, resulting in 34 acquisitions and a group of 60 veterinary clinics in Sweden, Norway and Denmark under Fidelio’s majority ownership. In 2014, AniCura was partially divested to Nordic Capital, with Fidelio remaining as an engaged minority owner, whilst AniCura continued to successfully expand in Europe, adding more than 100 clinics.

Building the leading European group of animal hospitals.
Bringing expertise within HR, IT, Marketing, Sourcing, Finance and Accounting to all acquired units.
In 2014, AniCura was partially divested to private equity firm Nordic Capital, with Fidelio staying on as a significant and engaged minority owner. After another 100+ acquisitions, AniCura positioned itself as a premier European player in its field.
In 2018 AniCura was fully divested to Mars Petcare. During Fidelio’s seven-year ownership period, the Group increased its number of clinics from 5 to over 200 and its employees from 250 to 4,000.
